The show sherlock， created by “Doctor Who” Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss （and， of
course， the original author， Arthur Conan Doyle）， costars （合演；联袂主演明星） Martin
Freeman as Dr. John Watson， an army doctor who was injured in Afghanistan （阿富汗） and finds
himself as the only true friend to the strange “consulting detective （私家侦探）”. The show is
playful （there’s much humor） but it’s not as proudly daft （古里古怪的） as “Doctor Who”，
Holmes also doesn’t spend as much time smiling at people.
《神探夏洛克》这部剧集由有“神秘博士”之称的Steven Moffat和Mark Gatiss创作（当
然，还有原著作者柯南道尔），华生由马丁·弗里曼饰演，这个角色是在阿富汗战场负过伤的
军医，后来意识到他自己是那个古怪“私家侦探”唯一的真心朋友。该剧喜感很强（里头有不少

“He’s a complex （复杂的） and more vulnerable （易受伤的） character who is easier to
relate to and care about. But it’s a slow process. He’s still smart， violent， physically capable and
dangerous.”

But how long will this Sherlock stay at the scene of the crime？ More and more， the actor is
hearing the call of larger screens and a wider world.

There was， for instance， the call Cumberbatch received from Steven Spielberg， who had
seen the actor’s television work and wanted him for “War Horse”. Cumberbatch also got strong
reviews for his work in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”.

Moffatt says that Cumberbatch， whose mother and father put together long careers in television
and on stage， was already one of the most admired actors of his generation and within the industry.
Moffat said， “We were the lucky ones who gave him the breakthrough （突破） part. The challenge
of Sherlock Holmes is to play a show-off （爱炫耀的人）， self-obsessed （自恋） person and yet
still be loved， and actually very few people have pulled it off （胜利完成）. I may be prejudiced，
but I don’t think anyone has pulled it off as well as Benedict.”

Looking ahead， Cumberbatch said his goal is to not limited to the typecasting （重复演同一类
