My Super Duper Spring Field Trip!
Hi! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about the
bestest field trip ever. It was a beautiful spring day and my 3rd
grade class went on a field trip to Greenwood Nature Park. I was
so excited, I could barely sleep the night before!
The morning of the field trip, I woke up bright and early. I
put on my favorite Hello Kitty t-shirt and pink shorts. I had a
biiiig breakfast of pancakes, eggs and orange juice to get lots of
energy for the day. My mom packed my beloved teddy bear
Charlie in my backpack to keep me company. She also packed a
yummy lunch with a PB&J sandwich, apple slices, carrot sticks
and a cookie. Yum!
When I got to school, I lined up with my class by the bright
yellow school bus. I was bouncing up and down because I was so
hyper to go on the field trip. My best friend Emma was behind
me and we giggled about how much fun we were gonna have.
Mrs. Johnson, my teacher, did a head count to make sure
everyone was there. Then we all climbed onto the bus. I raced
Emma to get a seat at the very back. We won!
The bus ride to the park took forever and a half. But we
didn't care, Emma and I just sang songs at the top of our lungs.
"The wheels on the bus go round and round!" We also played X's
and O's and told silly jokes to pass the time. Finally, we pulled up
to the park entrance. Yay!
When we got off the bus, a park ranger named Joe met us.
He was dressed in a big hat, green shorts and hiking boots. He
told us we were in for the best day ever. I got butterflies in my
tummy, I was so excited! We started on a long hiking trail
through the shady forest.
Along the trail, we saw lots of cool plants and critters. Joe
pointed out big oak trees, pretty wildflowers, squirrels
scampering up the trunks and birds making nests high up in the
branches. He let Emma and me hold a walking stick as thick as
my arm that he said was from a Buckeye tree. It was super heavy!
Joe said we might even see a deer if we were really quiet and
looked closely. I stared into the woods with my eyes wide,
hoping to spot one.
After a while, Joe led us to a beautiful clear stream with rocks
and pebbles along the banks. He said we could take off our
