To make a negative sentence in the past tense。we add "did
not" (or "didn't") before the base form of the verb。It's important
to use the base form of the verb。not the past tense。because
"did" already indicates the past tense.
For negative sentences using the verb "to be" in the past XXX:

You were not in class yesterday。
He was at home last night。

To make a negative sentence with "to be" in the past tense。
we add "not" after "was" or "were".

As you can see。when answering these ns。we use "did" at
the beginning of the sentence。followed by the subject pronoun
and the past tense of the verb。For a positive answer。we use
"Yes。subject pronoun + did." For a negative answer。we use
"No。subject pronoun + didn't."
2) ns with the verb "to be"

n: XXX?
Answer: No。I was not。/ Yes。I was.
XXX: The movie was interesting.
n: Was the movie interesting?
Answer: Yes。it was。/ No。it was not.
For ns with the verb "to be," we need to switch the ns of the
subject and the verb。So。we start the n with "was/were" and then
add the subject pronoun。The answers follow the same pattern as
with regular verbs.
