Dear Mike,

I’m glad to receive your letter. In July, China introduced the

“double reduction” policy. It hopes to reduce schoolwork burden on

primary and junior high school students. The policy calls for

reducing homework and after-school classes. So my life has changed a

lot.

Our homework is clearly less than before, and I have enough time to

process new knowledge now. I have more chances to do experiments and

learn from real life. For example, I go to research earthworms in a

field during a biology class. This is a much better way to learn

things than just hitting the books. I can also spend more time taking

part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama.

Although we feel less stress than before, self-discipline becomes the

key. We should balance the schoolwork and after-school activities.

Otherwise, we will fall behind other students. What about your

opinion?
