I was on a train in Switzerland (瑞士). Thirty minutes later, the train came to a stop and the conductor’s (乘务员) voice over the loudspeaker delivered a message in German, Italian and French. I’d made the mistake of not

learning any of those languages before my vacation.

Everyone started getting off the train and an old woman saw that I was confused and stressed. (I had to catch

an overnight train to Rome, and I was flying home from there). She could speak some English and told me that an

accident had happened on the tracks (轨道). She asked me where I was trying to get to, then went and talked to

some workers, and came back to tell me that we’d have to hop (换乘) trains three or four times to get there.

I was really glad she was heading the same way because it would have been impossible for me to figure it out

on my own (自己弄清楚). So we went from one train station to the next, getting to know each other along the way.

She was really the sweetest woman. It was a 2.5-hour journey in total, and when we made it to the final destination

(目的地) , we got off and said our goodbyes. I had made it just in time to catch my train to Rome. She told me she

had a train to catch as well. I asked her how much farther she had to go and it turned out (结果是) that her home

was two hours back the other way. She had jumped from train to train and travelled the whole just to make sure that

I made it. I was in shock. A woman spent her whole day sitting on trains and taking her hours away from her home

just to help out a confused (迷惑的) tourist visiting her country.

A project, under which senior people living alone take care of students who are not their grandchildren while

the parents are still at work, is useful in cutting down the pressure of working parents and the loneliness of senior

people.

The project was started by a neighborhood in Chengdu, Sichuan. Besides picking up the students after school,

the old people also cook dinner for them and help them with homework. All services are paid nothing.

Yang Qiong, founder of the project, said the idea came from a personal experience of hers. The 33-year-old

community worker has two children who would be unattended (没人照顾的) after school when she and her

husband were still at work. One day, she asked an old woman in her community to take care of her children and

found that the three had a good time together. And after several old people told her that they wanted to do

something for the community, she decided to give the idea a try.

After a simple survey, she learned that 40 percent of the students in the neighborhood were in such a situation.

And their parents strongly hoped this could be solved. When the project began in July 2019, old people showed

great interest in it.

According to Yang, the grannies take care of 30 to 40 children a day. A granny named Zhang was the first to

sign up for the project. “Though I’m old, I still want to help,” she said.

Families receiving help visit the old people often, buying vegetables and cooking dinners for them on

D.A woman has set up a project to cut down the loneliness of senior people.

Last night, a school night, my 11-year old son’s baseball team played a game that lasted until 9: 30. By the

time we got home and he had a quick dinner and shower, it was 10: 30—an hour and a half later than a child who

gets up at 6:30 should be going to bed. We love baseball. My son is having fun, getting exercise, and learning

patience (耐心) , teamwork and sports spirit. But the truth is that the game also influences his sleep.

As parents, we want good things for our children. We want them to be healthy both in body and in mind. So

we look for ways to help our kids grow and develop. For example, we encourage our kids to take honors courses(培优课程) or to have after-school jobs. And we praise them for hard-earned (来之不易的)

success and

achievements.

However, the irony (讽刺) is that all of these activities and responsibilities that we are giving our children to

make, responsibilities and goals are good. But if we want our kids to realize their full physical, learning and social

ability.

Parents make bedtime routines (计划) and carry out strict rules about night time. But in fact these measures

(措施) aren’t enough because getting our kids enough sleep isn’t just about carrying out stricter bedtime. It actually

requires more than order to make sure that our kids get the sleep they need, both parents and schools should

make an effort.

B.In an old people’s home.

D.In a community.

四、阅读回答问题

He is a charming schoolboy in with You (《最好的我们》), a talented detective in Detective Chinatown (《唐人街侦探》), and a brave general (将军) in Nirvana in Fire Ⅱ (《琅琊榜之风起长林》)。

Liu Haoran, a young actor who started his career at 19 years old, has already impressed viewers with several

different roles. During the National Day holiday, people saw him in the films Coffee or Tea (《一点就到家》) and

My People, My Homeland (《我和我的家乡》)。He became the ninth Chinese actor to reach 10 billion yuan in total

box office earnings.

Liu said he plans to be a serious actor as his career develops instead of just a good-looking one.

With this goal in mind, Liu has focused on academic (学术的) training. He attended the Central Academy of

Drama in 2015 with the highest score in his major (专业), and graduated this July.

Liu has found ways to better understand his roles. To play the young General Su Yu in The Founding of an

Army (《建军大业》, he read history books to learn more about Su. To practise stammering (口吃) for his role in

Detective Chinatown, he used many notes to remind him to break up his lines.

Liu believes that an acting career is like a marathon (马拉松)—going slow and steady (平稳地) is more

important than getting popular fast and burning out quickly. He carefully chooses every project to make sure they
