Some researchers explain how most people form their social groups with people of their age.

Especially, as children and teenagers, even adults, people make their friends based on proximity

(邻近) more than anything else. Even in a college classroom, the students may not make

friends with those who have similar personalities and interests. It's the people they really sit next

to. Clearly, who stands to you has the greatest influence on you. As Jim Rohn has widely said.

"You are average (平均) of five people you spend the most little with."

Over the past ten months, I've paid Ryan, it Famous writer of several bestselling books, to help

with the book I'm writing. Working with him has shown me just how low my standards for my

work are. For example, every time I send him a drab (草稿), he shows me how it could be

10 times better, and he holds me to that standard.

▲ It's because that I don't know what I don't know. Working with Ryan has made me realize

what is possible and what it takes to create something powerful.

Like Ryan, my business partner Richard has wonderful ideas and far different experience than I

have. He has written 36 New York Times Bestsellers. He's been speaking and doing events for 20

years. Richard always performs at high levels, and he is also very strict with me because my

performance is a reflection (反映) on him. It's not a bad thing because it creates high pressure

(压力) to help me make great progress in organizing author training.

In a word, you need to stay with those people who can help you realize your level and potential.

Staying with people who have higher standards is the fastest way for you to change. If you don't

change your environment, your progress will be very slow. Who you stay with has huge

importance. You can't ignore this.

D. It's not that I've paid Ryan to help me with my book.

(3)What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 4 refer to (指代)?

A. The writer's performance. B. Jim Rohn's famous saying.

C. Richard's different experience. D. Richard's strictness with the writer.

A. we can improve our working abilities by ourselves

Need to buy something? Why go to a store? Buy it on the Internet! Need it now? Why wait?

Ask to receive it the next day! Each day, more and more people try on-line shopping. In fact,

online sales have doubled in the last ten years. But not everyone is excited. Some scientists now

say that online shopping is bad for the environment.

People are surprised to hear this." They think, I don't need to drive, and the business doesn't

need to build a store, so there will be less pollution," says Nuria Prost, an environmental scientist.

"But it is not so simple. In fact, online shopping is wasteful. It also adds to air pollution."

In truth, the Internet is not always as good a friend to the environment as it seems. For

example, most people thought that the Internet would help offices use less paper and other

materials. But paper use increased by33percent between 1986 and 1997."Online shopping could

have similarly harmful results," says Nevil Cohen, a researcher of environmental science. Part of

the problem is what people are buying these days. In the past, people bought things on the

Internet that did not require much packing material, such as books and clothing. But now people

also shop online for large, heavy pro ducts such as televisions, computers, chairs and tables.

These products need to be packed in lots of plastic and paper. This creates a lot of waste.

Another problem caused by online shopping is air pollution. When customers buy products and

ask to receive them the next day, online businesses often have to send them by air. Airplanes use

much more oil than cars and produce more carbon dioxide(二氧化碳). When people buy a lot

of different things from different online businesses, this creates even more travel by airplane.

Online product returns are also a problem. For example, an online shoe store may allow

customers to return shoes for free if they are wrong size. This doubles the packing materials and

number of airline trips required to sell one pair of shoes.

"If people want to protect the environment, they need to think before they shop," says Prost.

"People need to ask themselves: Is this exactly what I want? Do I really need it tomorrow, or can I

wait?" Online stores can also ask customers to pay money for returns. This may make people

shop more carefully." Online shopping is fast and easy, "says Prost," but we can't forget the

harmful result it has caused to the environment."

(1)The passage begins with several questions to .

A. introduce the main topic

B. describe online shopping

C. show the writer's opinion

D. list advantages of shopping

(2)What is the passage mainly about?

A. The Internet is not good to the environment.

A. Large products need more packing materials.

B. Paper use increased by 33 percent about ten years.

C. Businesses need to build a store to sell the products.

D. Online shopping costs less than shopping in a store.

(4)What is probably the best title of the passage?

A. A Good Deal to Make

B. A Different Lifestyle to Keep

C. A Cleaner Way to Shop

We often hear stories of animals rescuing people. But now someone has managed to return

and then he fell into the water and couldn't climb out," said Smith. He realized he had no choice

but to try and save his dog. "Someone else told me the lake was only one meter deep, but it was

at least twice that. I had to break my way through the 6-cm ice. Finally, I got Jack by the neck and

pulled him out. I didn't think I had ever felt so cold by the time we got back to dry land. And

when we got there, everyone was asking if Jack was okay—no one was particularly worried about

Have you ever wanted to achieve a goal and ended up doing lots of research on how to achieve

it? As you learned more and more. It seemed you knew less and less. That is because when you

learned a new concept(概念). You found that there was a lot more to know about it.

Usually, people think they need to get more and more information before trying a new idea.

There is nothing wrong with learning a lot, but when you let learning get in the way of doing, you

will never get going.

One of the best ways to learn is to take action and learn from the results that you get from

those actions. Don't be afraid of not being perfect and just take the first step. You will go further

than those who are still in preparation. It's good to be prepared, but over-preparation in trying to

reach a goal won't get you results. The knowledge and skills that you will need will be picked up

along the way.

If a baby wants to learn how to walk, it doesn't do it by just sitting there and thinking about

how to walk. The best way for a baby to walk is to actually get up and start walking. Sure it may

fall, but with every fall, it learns what is working and what is not and adjusts(调整)to it. By

doing this over and over, it will finally learn to walk. This is the method you should use when you

want to achieve your goals as well. It works.

Learning more is great but if all you're doing is learning and not taking action, it's time to

change that. Just take the first step.
