3.阅读理解

Scrub, the pet cat of Jennifer's, was found! It got lost five years ago. Jennifer looked for it

everywhere but failed each time. She thought Scrub would never come back. But one day she got

a call from an animal shelter(庇护所) and was told they had found Scrub!

How did they know Scrub belonged to Jennifer? How did they know Jennifer's phone number?

All the information was available because of the microchip, a very small computer chip(薄片).

It was placed under Scrub's skin many years earlier.

The microchip is usually placed under the skin of an animal's shoulder to keep its ID number.

Once the chip is in place, the pet does not feel it anymore. When lost pets are brought to animal

shelters, people there use a special tool to look for the microchip and read the ID number on it,

then they'll call the microchip company to match the number to the information of the pet's

owner. This is how the shelter was able to tell Jennifer that they had found Scrub.

Microchips have helped thousands of owners get their lost pets back. In New York, a dog

named Roxy was missing for months. Then a woman found her on a busy street in New Jersey. No

one knows how the dog got to a different state. However, thanks to her microchip, Roxy was soon

returned to her grateful owner.

In 2008, a couple got their cat George back after he had disappeared 13 years earlier! When

George got lost, the couple tried everything to find him. They visited animal shelters every day for

six months, made posters and even offered a $500 reward(酬金). As years went by, they

thought George would never be back till they got the call from an animal shelter. Without the

microchip, the cat would never be able to come home again.

Microchips can not only work for a pet's whole life but help lost pets no matter how far they've

been away from home. This is why microchips may be just the thing to help bring missing pets

back home.

A. They are very small computer chips.

B. They are under an animal's skin of its shoulder.

(3)The right order of how animal shelters help lost pets return home is .

①Get the ID number of the lost pet.

②Call the owner to bring the lost pet home.

③Look for the microchip of the lost pet.

④Call the microchip company to match the number to the information of its owner.

A. ③①②④ B. ③④①② C. ①③④② D.

③①④②

(4)According to the passage, we can know that .

Dear Alan,

Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in. I am excited and a little nervous.

Could you please give me some help?

I am not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be

too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment, On the other hand, if I rent a

house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of

people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice

apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment

and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate

who is neat and quiet. You know I can not live with someone who is loud and messy. I do not

have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for

somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study

and spend less time travelling.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

I'm having a problem with my classmate, Joan, at school. The other day I wrote an email to

another classmate, Beth, in which I said something about Joan that perhaps wasn't very nice.

Unluckily, when Beth was writing back to me, she sent it to Joan@163. com, which is Joan's

email address! Now Joan is really angry with me and won't talk to me, and Beth is unhappy as

well. She has said sorry to me a hundred times already, but the harm is done. I feel bad,

feelings. It may take time for her to be able to forgive you, but that's up to her. Then you might

want to do something nice for her. Perhaps send her some flowers to show that you're truly

sorry. Also, you should remember that old saying:" If you don't have anything nice to say, don't

say anything at all. "And good luck!

Riding a Mobike on the street. You might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to

the right, you see a Sichuan-style restaurant. After walking into a store, you see that Huawei

smartphones are on sale.

But you are not in China—You are in Manchester in Britain. You might see similar things in

many other cities. Chinese products have been going global (世界性的).

Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. To meet local people's

tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes. For example, Chinese people

like to eat meat with the bone in, but Western people don't. So Chinese restaurants provide big

pieces of meat without bones, even for fish.

Some Chinese brands are also becoming more popular. In many cities in Europe, stores sell TCL

televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers.

More than half of the US-owned drones(无人机)are Chinese models. They're not only made

in China, but also designed and developed in the country.

In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable(不可

靠的). But now, things have changed greatly. "Made in China" becomes cool.

(1)We can see more people use Chinese products in Western countries now.

11.阅读理解

One night, when I was eight, my mother gently asked me a question I would never forget.

"Sweetie, my company wants to promote(升职) me but needs me to work in Brazil. This is like

your teacher telling you that you've done well and allowing you to skip(跳) a grade, but you'll

have to leave your friends. Would you say yes to your teacher?" She gave me a hug and asked me

to think about it. I was lost in thought. The question kept me wondering for the rest of the night. I

had said "Yes" but for the first time, I realized the difficult decisions adults had to make.

For almost four years, my mother would call us from Brazil every day. Every evening I'd eagerly

wait for the phone to ring and then tell her everything that happened during the day. A phone

call, however, could never take her place and it was difficult not to feel lonely at times.

During my fourth-grade Christmas break, we flew to Rio to visit her. Looking at her large empty

apartment. It was then I started to understand the difficult choices she had to make. She needed

to think about both family and work. Faced with difficult decisions, she used to tell me, you

wouldn't know whether you made the right choice, but you could always make the best out of

the situation, with a positive attitude.

Back home, I reminded myself that what my mother could do, I could, too. If she managed to live

in Rio all by herself, I, too, could learn to be independent. I learn how to take care of myself and

set high but achievable goals.

My mother is now back with us. But I will never forget what the experience has really taught

me. I've learned a lot because of this separation(分离). There are lots of difficult decisions

that we have to face in our life. We need to have a positive attitude no matter what happens.

(1)It was __________ for the writer to say "Yes" to her mother s question.
