conduct a job interview
I recently conducted a job interview with Alex, a young
man who was applying for an entry-level position in an
accounting firm. The interview started with some small talk,
which I used as a chance to get to know Alex. I asked him
about his background, what inspired him to pursue a career in
accounting, where he sees himself in five years, and if he
had any experience in the accounting field. After the initial
introduction, I asked him about his education after high
school, the type of accounting courses he had taken, the
specific tasks he had done in those courses, and what he
believed he could bring to the accounting firm if he was
hired.
Next, I gave Alex some hypothetical scenarios to
demonstrate his knowledge and how he would handle certain
situations. For example, I asked him how he would approach a
situation if he was presented with financial documents that
didn't match up with the client's income statement. He
managed to answer the questions concisely and accurately,
demonstrating his knowledge and ability to handle the problem.
Finally, I asked Alex what motivated him to work hard
and why he wanted this job. To this, he had thought-out and
thoughtful answers which showed passion and understanding of
the demands that come with an accounting job. He also spoke
of the fulfillment he felt when he had helped a client with
tax returns.
Overall, Alex had impressive answers, was professional
and confident. He demonstrated a great understanding of the
accounting field and had a strong enthusiasm for the job. I
believe he is a great candidate for the position, and I
highly recommend him.
